Miles Away From Home

Miles the dog would do anything for his family. He cooks. He does laundry. He runs safety drills. But when they all head to the beach for summer vacation, Miles's good deeds backfire. Suddenly, everything he does causes trouble. "That dog should be in a kennel," an angry neighbor says. Could that be true? With charm and humor- and unexpected heroism- Miles turns an ordinary family vacation into a beach wide celebration. Grab your swim fins and hit the beach with Miles, a most extraordinary dog!

Author's Note: One summer, while on vacation with my family, my children and I were introduced to a small dog who liked to travel. About a year later, we were eating lunch and my daughter said "Mommy, remember that dog we met, the one who liked to travel?" That's when the idea for Miles was born. The setting for this book is Duck, North Carolina, where we recently spent a summer vacation. We barbecued, rode perfect waves, and went for ice cream just like Miles.
