Three simple lessons using my books in your classroom. Miles Away From Home:
1) Read the book to the class.
2) Print out the book cover found on the Fun Kid Stuff page and have the children color it.
3) Ask "what was your favorite part of Miles' vacation?" Write a sentence about it.
3) Have the children draw a picture of their own vacation, field trip, or fun weekend.
4) Ask "What was the best part of your vacation or fun weekend?" Have the children write a sentence about it.
Emily's Shoes:
1) Read the book to the class and talk about different kinds of shoes.
2) Put the children into small groups. Have each child draw a pair of shoes.
3) Cut the paper in half so that the shoes are now on separate pieces of paper.
4) Mix up the shoe pictures.
5) Have the children match up the shoes.
How Many Ants?:
1) Read the book and count with the class 1-10. Count by 10s to 100.
2) Print out the ant art lesson found on the Fun Kid Stuff page and learn how to draw ants.
3) Give each child a sheet of paper and have them draw 10 ants.
4) Count the ants 1-10.
5) Have them bring the papers up to the front and line them up.
6) Count by 10s to 100. Exclaim, "We made 100 ants!".
6) Depending on class size, ask "Can we make another 100?".
